El Verano Preschool
Preschool for All!
We are proud to partner with the Ernest Bates Foundation and the Vadasz Foundation in the expansion of the El Verano Preschool. This preschool program has now doubled to 44 students for the 2012-2013 school year . Preschool is a proven way to give students a strong start in school. Preschool helps students adjust to the school environment and enhances early learning skills. Currently only half of the 400 new kindergartners in our district have attend any preschool at all. That means that they are already as much as a full year behind on the day they first walk through the door of Kindergarten. We have a high rate of English language learners in our district. When ELL children enter school with no preschool experiences they are faced with the overwhelming challenge of learning a new language and mastering the curriculum. According to school superintendent, Louann Carlomagno, "high quality preschool is the best possible resource for equalizing student outcomes and helping students achieve crucial academic benchmarks".
